5 Objects of my Affection in January

January 30, 2026

1. Subikiawa letter writing set by Cozyca Products

I'm forever writing letters to my future/past/reincarnated self. You can never have too much letter writing accoutrement. Sometimes, I write a letter and stick it in the bag where we keep our Christmas tree. Then I get a nice surprise when we put our Christmas tree up the next year. I spotted this sweet Subikiawa set at Kyobo recently and will be writing my end-of-2026 self a nice love letter.

2. Birthday card from my parents

I'm turning 30 next week. My parents mailed me this card that my mum picked up in Japan. It says "congratulations on starting school" in Japanese on the inside, but I feel like that is appropriate for the energy I'm bringing into my 30th lap around the sun (woah sounds like such a short amount of time). Good luck to anyone else starting school this month!

3. Ceramic grumpy cat brooch

I found a shop in Hoi An on our recent trip that had so many cute notebooks and trinkets that I wanted to take home with me. I restrained myself and just picked up this ceramic cat who looks like he just woke up from a nap in a sunny little spot that's not so sunny anymore. Putting it on my coat collar brings me a little bit of joy on these cold days in Seoul. It is from Little Cats Studio in Hoi An, Vietnam.

4. Tiny short story by Claire Keegan

This little tiny book caught my eye at Kyobo recently. I really love Claire Keegan's writing, it makes me feel like I'm a small Irish girl living on a dairy farm. In 2019, Faber created 30 of these little books in celebration of its 90th year of publishing. The book covers are so delightful and are the size of a pocket! 5. 2026 Weekly Diary

I've accepted that bullet journalling is too hard for me to juggle in 2026. I used to write out monthly spreads with ellaborate illustrations and lists and meticulous step by step instructions for acheiveing all of my hopes and dreams. This year, I chose to go with a diary that has all of the days and months written out for me. It has been a real game changer for helping me remember to do things. Without a diary, I would literally just keep walking into walls and large bodies of water like a video game character. If I don't write it down, it doesn't exist, and I have a blank calendar app on my phone to prove it. My diary is the LEUCHTTURM1917 Daily Planner 2026. I bought a display model and got a discount. I like to think that all the people who touched the book in the store before me were wishing me well for the new year.
